When I began collecting T206s after a 17 year hiatus, I knew I’d never complete the full 524 card set – the big 4 are financially out of my reach. So that left me with a goal of 520. After much thought, I’ve decided not to pursue the O’Hara and Demmitt St. Louis variations as I don’t feel the cards are worth the premium. So my set collection will top out at a very respectable 518.
So where does that leave me? As of Memorial Day 2012, I’m at 516/518 – two cards left to go to slay the Monster. To complete my 518 set, I need the Ty Cobb bat on shoulder and the Cy Young portrait cards. Fitting how the last two came down to two of the most popular cards in the set, both Hall of Famers and two of the more expensive cards in the set.
Hopefully I’ll be able to complete the set in the coming months. In the meantime, I’ve been posting more and more scans of my cards to this site, adding ten more today.
