Large Lot Purchase & Three HOFs

About two weeks ago I bought a lot of cards from someone selling off his near-complete set.  Don’t know why he was breaking up his set, but I wasn’t about to change his mind.  The lot contained 52 cards, mostly commoners and a couple of ‘hard to find’ commoners.  Most of the backs were Piedmont with the occasional Polar Bear (probably my favorite back).

Nothing too exciting to report about the lot pickup other than it significantly added to my collection.  I’ve focused a great deal of my attention to southern leaguers and hall of famers recently and welcomed the opportunity to pick up some commoners for a decent price (averaged $15/card).

I also picked up three more hall of famers:  Rube Marquard (portrait), Nap Lajoie (throwing), Joe Tinker (bat on shoulder).  Since I collect raw cards (cards not graded), it is becoming more and more difficult to find southern leaguers and hall of famers that haven’t been graded.  I can see the need to grade a t206 card that’s in really nice shape for someone putting together an investment set, but why grade a card that has tons of creases, stains, paper loss, etc?  Since there are few souther leaguers and hall of famers out there for sale that haven’t been graded, I try my best to grab them whenever I can find them.

I don’t have scans at this time as I just got back in town from traveling out of the country.  When I find some time, I’ll resume scanning of my t206 collection.  Don’t forget, t206blog is on Facebook – like us today!
